The FDC Champion Awards ... were introduced to staff in September 2004 to encourage customer focus, teamwork, innovation, continuous improvement and most importantly success through people. Using staff satisfaction surveys ... as a guideline, five key areas of improvement were identified - through change, support, leadership, safety and teamwork.

Leadership Development Framework
Two successive climate surveys and an organisation-wide learning needs analysis identified that we needed stronger leadership to develop our people so that Auckland City could work better with other agencies on long-term complex projects and more collaboratively internally.

t3 stands for ‘Third Thursday Thinkers’. Established 4 years ago, t3 is a gregarious group of staff members who take it upon themselves to inject fun into the Manawatu District Council. t3 members meet on every third Thursday of the month to brainstorm ideas and plan fun events for the organisation and, on occasion, review operational matters. M.A.D. (Making a Difference)
People at Waikato DC started the MAD (Make a Difference) concept in 1998. As the MAD initiatives progressed over the years, Council's management team identified the need to pull together all the MAD initiatives in to one project to Foster an organisational culture.

A Campaign for Culture Change
The slogan "Will Do Crew" was chosen from a number of slogans put forward by staff in a consultation process. "Will Do Crew" was chosen partly because as an acronym it is the same as "Waitaki District Council" - WDC. It also implies forward movement, a positive attitude and teamwork.

International Computer Drivers License
One of Tauranga City Council’s (TCC) goals is to build a high performance culture through the targeted and structured training and development of our people. The use of technology at TCC has increased markedly in recent years. It is imperative that staff continually update their skills in order to be able to make the best use of our computer systems.

Building Achievers
The People Development Review Team was responsible for coming up with new ideas for a range of processes around the management of people. The Team made a number of changes to policies. It created new policies for succession planning and employee retention. It overhauled the induction process for new employees. The Team’s greatest focus, however, was on reviewing the performance management coaching tool used by the organisation called Building Achievers (BA)

Making Democracy Work
Simplicity and Culture change were at the heart of this project. The idea was to use council's most important business asset, its people to develop a simple governance model that would catch all layers and levels of the organisation.
