A new approach to erosion and sediment control on small development sites.
The pollutant effect of sediment from earthworked development sites is a major concern across the Auckland Region, causing serious long term harm to streams, beaches and the marine environment. The project introduced a system to monitor the management of Erosion and Sediment control on small sites not subject to resource consent monitoring, using the building consent process. The project integrates support and enforcement of erosion and sediment controls into the building consent processing and inspections regime administered by Council.
Significant environmental benefit is obtained with minimal extra expenditure or staff resource...”

Integrated Case Management – The Yellow Tree House
“The integrated case management system for assessing Resource and Building Consents was introduced by Rodney District Council as an innovative way of delivering complex consents in a comprehensive and efficient manner. The service provides a single point of contact within the Council to lead a team of staff to assess and advise on one or more development applications relating to the same site. It builds upon and strengthens customer relations through collaboration to identify development solutions that ultimately achieve high quality outcomes for Rodney District’s customers and communities. Instead of regulation being a hurdle, integrated case management makes the process one of added value, enabling the regulator and customer to achieve “win-win” outcomes.”

Graffiti Eradication Project
“ Like many communities and territorial authorities Waitaki has experienced the growing problem and costs due to graffiti vandalism. Graffiti was prominently found under bridges, on road signs, parks, public and private property and was beginning to give the impression that parts of the community were uncared for, unattractive and unsafe. In turn the potential economic consequences due to people avoiding certain areas and businesses, plus the increasing cost of removal to Council and ratepayers saw a need to address graffiti vandalism in Waitaki. The goal was to minimise graffiti levels in the Waitaki District over the first year (Graffiti Eradication Programme) and implement preventative measures over years two and three (Graffiti Prevention Programme)..”
