Hume Global Learning Village

Hume Global Learning Village — Hume City Council, Victoria, Australia (Pop 160,000)

Governments at all levels are increasingly focusing on learning and skill development as a key driver in achieving both social and economic goals.  Hume’s key driver to address social and economic disadvantage is the creation of a learning community, in partnership with the community, the education sector, the community development and support sector, businesses and others. The Hume Global Learning Village is a unique collaboration of government, community, education and business groups. The Global Learning Village is the means of giving effect to a vision of a community of people, organisations and businesses that are economically and socially successful and sustainable. Hume City Council is able to leverage better outcomes for the community through ‘joined up’ learning providers and supporters. Greater synergies and collaborative programmes are possible, and less duplication and greater outcomes are likely, through making links, communicating and joint planning across sectors, organisations and governments.
