Local Strategies Global Investments — City of Playford, South Australia, Australia (Pop 70,000)
Increasingly the contest for economic growth is coming to be seen as one between cities and regions rather than nations. Transformational regional projects will be most effectively based on partnerships and intelligent research that tackles the big issues arising from the ongoing and relentless pressures of globalisation. Over the past 12 to 18 months, the City of Playford’s economic development programme has created a platform of local industry intelligence. The approach is about bundling up small and under-resourced projects into ones of sufficient magnitude – to enter into global markets. Playford’s programme has proved particularly successful and led to significant investment outcomes and international recognition.
